Bad 25th Anniversary

Today marks the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s seventh studio album Bad.  The album will be re-released with bonus live tracks as well as a dvd with live performances.

Personally I’m just happy they didn’t let today’s artists remix any tracks from Bad.  I don’t think Thriller 25 came even remotely close to doing Thriller any justice at all.  I think it was best to just leave Michael’s classic songs alone.

Bad 25 is set to be released Sept 18th 2012.  Will you be getting a copy?

Just for fun here’s my favorite song and video from Bad. I abolutey LOVE the vocal arrangement on the chorus.

Open Closet Magazine Launch Party

This week I attended the Open Closet Magazine launch party.  As soon as I arrived I was able to snag a photo-op with fashion editor and co-founder of the magazine Avery Johnson.

The even was hosted by Ramona Rizzo of VH1 Mob Wives.

She was also on the cover of the very first issue of Open Closet Magazine.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to grab my own copy of the magazine.  Someone was kinda enough to let me snap a pic of their copy though. However, I was able to grab one of these cool Open Close Magazine tote bags.

The night was also complete with musical performances.  First up was pop artist Salena Dabbs.

Here is some footage of her performance.

There was also an appearance of the Mari Twins of The Fashion Zone

Later on in the night there was a performance from R&B artist Rasul A-Salaam.

Here’s some video of his performance.

Unfortunately I couldn’t stay for the entire party so my night ended shortly after this performance.  I wasn’t able to see what other things were store for the guests at this event but overall I enjoyed it.

Create Your Own Feel It Formula

I’m sure some of you may have seen the Dr Miracle comercials and have herd of the famous feel it formula.  The story is that their products are so good you can feel them working.

I’ve tried Dr Miracle products before.  I wasn’t particularly impressed.  The again I’m bit of a natural snob, meaning not only is my hair natural but I like my hair products like I like my food….natural and organic. There are usually a whole host of unhealthy chemicles in conventional beauty products.  Unfortunately Dr Miracle is no exception.

Basically all the feel it formula does is make your scalp tingle.  There are simply ways to get that tingly sensation in your scalp without the unhealthy chemicles, and chances it are it will actually be cheaper in the long run.

All you need to is grab your favorite carrier oil (like avocado oil, jojoba oil, olive oil, or coconut oil) and mix it with a little bit of tea tree oil, peppermint oil, or eucallyptus oil and massage it into your scalp.  All of these oils promote a healthy scalp and will give you the same tingly feeling.  You can even mix and match according to your needs.

Tea tree oil is know to have anti fungal properties and is effective in treating dry itchy scalp and dandruff. Eucalyptus oil is a natural antiseptic and it helps stimulate growth as well as gives the hair more shine.  It’s also good for dry and itchy scalp.  Peppermint oil is known to balance the ph levels of the scalp therefore it can treat both dry and oily scalp.  It also relieves itching and stimulates hair growth.  Peppermint oil also has the most pleasant scent of the three oils.

Would You Watch an A Different World Remake?

I came across this article that featured some tweets from Debbie Allen expressing interest in doing a remake of the late 80s to early 90s sit com A Different World.  For those of you who don’t know A Different World as a sit com that explored the lives of black young adults attending a HBCU.

I used to LOVE that show.  I even used to have a pair of fake Dwayne Wayne glasses when I was younger.  I used to get in trouble for wearing them to class in elementary school.

Although generally I don’t like the idea of remakes (I prefer people come up with new fresh original ideas) I really wouldn’t mind at all to see this show updated and back on the air.  With reality trash tv running rampant I find myself longing for more scripted shows and more quality television in general.  Also it wouldn’t hurt to have more positive black images on tv.  The younger generation would greatly benefit from seeing a show about black young adults going to college as opposed to black girls fighting in the club on a reality show.

What do you think? Do you think a remake of A Different World would be a good idea?

Oh and just a side note, I LOVED the theme song too. Check it out. Take a close listen and tell me of you recognize the voice of the woman singing.  (Hint: Check the tags on this post)

Enjoy That Time of the Month

Ladies, I’m sure you’ve all seen that always commercial that says “have a happy period”.  Of course most women think that’s a huge joke.  How can a woman be happy when she’s bleeding, cramping, tired, and bloated? But is is really all that impossible to have a happy period?  I’d like to think it isn’t.

Personally I like to celebrate all parts of womanhood, including that time of the month.  I find it helps to stop dreading it and take it as an excuse to pamper the hell out of myself.

Use that time of the month to show yourself some extra love and care.  If you know get fatigued then cut your to do list in half.  Whatever can wait for another 5-7 days then let it wait.  If you can take the day off from work/ school then go ahead and do that.  If you’re on a diet give yourself permission to cheat on your diet and treat yourself to some junk food (in moderation of course).

If you can, just lay on the couch and catch up on your favorite tv shows or read that book you never finished reading. Relax with a cup of tea (I reccomend red raspeberry leaf tea, it helps with the cramps) If you have the money, treat yourself to massage.  This is your time to spoil yourself.  Make the time to do a few things just for you. Don’t just have a happy period…celebrate it!
