Pics From Afro Punk Festival Day 1

I was super excited to attend Afro Punk Festival 2012. I love outdoor events like this. It was held in Commodore Barry Park in Brooklyn NY (my hometown of course).

The first think I did when I entered the park was take a look at who was on the stage. There wasn’t anyone performing though. They were in between sets.

So next I took a look at the skateboarding contest. It was pretty cool.

I really enjoyed watching because I’d never seen a skateboarding contest before. However, I have seen the tv series Scarred (where they show a whole bunch horrific freak accidents that happened during skateboarding, biking, roller blading, etc). Most of the time I was nervous someone would hurt themself. Here’s some footage of the skateboarding.

There were also live performances during the skateboarding contest. You can hear them in the video. Here is a picture of one of the performers.

What I also thought was pretty cool was that there was a cell phone charging station. That was a pretty unique and useful idea. I wouldn’t be surprised if I start seeing it at more events.

After checking out the skateboarding contest I took a look at what the vendors had to offer. As an addict I already have an appreciation for handmade goods and there were plenty of them. It was a joy to check out all the creative things people made and sold.

I ended up buying myself two pairs of earrings.

I also grabbed a free sample of Hair Rules hydrating finishing cream along with a cute little button

Over all I dug the peaceful loving vibe of the event. I love it any time people of all colors, sexes, and ages get together and there’s no drama.

My only regret is that I couldn’t stay to catch Erykah Badu’s performance. But I’ll definitely be back for day 2 with Janelle Monae. Stay tuned folks part 2 is comming right up.

New Music: I Should Let You Go

Hey remember the former lead singer from 702 Meelah Johnson? Well she’s released a new song called I Should Let You Go.  It’s produced by Stevie J.  Well at least he’s good for something other than laying pipe and putting his business in the street via reality tv but I digress. I dig it! I really hope all this new music from all these talented singers are a sign of R&B making a comeback. Check it out here.

Do You Think Antonique Smith Has What It Takes?

When people see Antonique Smith the first thing that comes to mind is, “Oh that’s the girl who played Faith in Notorious”.  It’s a lesser known fact that she also played Mimi Marquez in the broadway play Rent.

Now she’s ready to embark on a career in music.  Check out with the teaser for her single Speechless below.  I think it sounds pretty cool.  She has my curiosity. I’d like to see what else she plans on bringing to the table.

What are your thoughts.  Do you think Antonique Smith can make it in the music biz?

And just for fun here’s a video of her covering Adele’s Someone Like You

Snoop Lion?

I would be the first to say that it was time for Snoop Dog to change his image.  I felt that he was too old to rap about being young wild and free and smoking weed all the time.  I thought it was definitely time for him to grow up.  I was even expecting him to reinvent himself eventually. But I surely wasn’t expecting him to abandon rap all together to embrace reggae.

My parents are both from the islands.  My father is Jamaican and though I myself wasn’t raised in the islands physically I was still raised in island culture.  I’m always happy and proud to see people of other cultures embrace Caribbean culture but this kind of makes me nervous. Can Snoop really pull this new image off? What do you think?

Check out the trailer for the documentary Reincarnated below.  It shows a little bit of Snoop Dogg’s transformation from Snoop Dogg to Snoop Lion.  Also, chekc out Snoop Lion’s first single La la la below.

La la la

Hey there people. I came across something pretty cool when I was browsing tumblr. Any nail art fans out there? Well I have good news! There’s a cool new documentary in the works about nail art. It’s called nailgasm!

It gives an in-depth look at nail art culture through the eyes of professional nail technicians and nail art fans alike.

Check out the trailer below.

Shia LaBeouf Naked

Anyone who knows me knows I have a huge crush on actor Shia LaBeouf.  Imagine how excited I was (no pun intended) when I read on Huffington Post that he was featured in a video in which he did full frontal nudity.  Oh My.  Of course the point of the video isn’t to show Shia LaBeouf naked.  According to the article it’s a depiction of a couple in a never ending cycle of desire and addiction.  Check it out.
